Des élections à Schgeumland, nous passons aux élections aux Etats Unis.
Il y a peu de temps j’ai suivi un reportage sur la perception d’Obama aux Etats Unis. Le moins que je puisse dire c’est que Schgeumland se sent moins seule vu le lot d’inepties et d’insanités débitées lors des élections aux Etats Unis. Cette année celui qui en bave le plus est Obama.
D’abord, il y a la fameuse confusion entre “Osana” et “Obama” faite par le “peuple”. Un Hell’s Angel du Sud des Etats Unis interrogé sur la candidature d’Obama déclarait que pour lui il n’y avait pas de différence entre Osama et Obama. On pourrait encore dire que c’est marginalement typique de l’idiot, sauf quand quelqu’un comme Ted Kennedy, sénateur démocrate du Massachussets s’y met aussi, ça tourne au ridicule. Et on continue avec Mitt Romney, candidat à la présidence. Puis quand la typo s’emmele, au lieu d’afficher “Where is Osama?” CNN a en effet affiché “Where is Obama?” lors d’un reportage sur le présumé terroriste, ça devient pathétique. Puis il y a les erreurs “bêtes” lors d’émissions discutant de questions hautement philosophiques qui provoquent l’hilarité sans que la personne qui se trompe ne juge nécessaire de rectifier. Révélateur… Enfin, il y a apparemment un tube d’extrême droite sur cette similarité qui est diffusé sur de nombreuses radio alors que Dear Mister President de Pink est encore interdit d’onde sur de nombreuses chaînes média…
Je vous passe la profonde réflexion de certains électeurs sur le fait que le deuxième prénom d’Obama est Hussein, comme Saddam. Et je vous épargne également le fait qu’Obama ne soit pas assez noir – ni de couleur, ni de coeur, ni d’esprit. Aaaah, connerie quand tu nous tiens tu nous unis. Finalement la globalisation est présente depuis la nuit des temps mais nous n’avions pas de média pour la voir. C’était quand même mieux avant…

On se rend facilement compte que tout processus electoral ne repose finalement que sur des impressions tres largement subjectives.
Vaomiera. En fait, c’est une intéressante plongée dans le fonctionnement réel de la démocratie. Paradoxalement, j’en viens presque à souhaiter vivement le retour en force des dictatures pour plus de simplicité, d’honnêteté intelectuelle voire de transparence dans le choix des dirigeants (il n’y a qu’un critère: le népotisme).

What’s obvious to some people – name,gender and origin for example aren’t pertinent criteria for a vote – isn’t to everyone.
Who would think a president could be impeached for screwing an intern and not for screwing the Iraqi people…
I’m not quite sure people will vote for you regardless of your origin. Just look around: Schgeumland !

if i got it right you are refering to the watergate scandal with president nixon.i am not a pundit in laws and constitution but i think he was impeached because he used his presidential power to spy on his opponents headquarter.a serious breach of the us constitution.
whereas bush got the congress approval to start the war in iraq.therefore the war in itself was constitutional so no ground for an impeachment.i am not talking here about the legitimacy of the war that is another topic.
second when i said that people will vote for you regardless of your name i was only talking about america.
i am not unmindful that race,gender,religion,sexual orientation and so on are an important issue during an election.all i am saying is that in this respect america is ahead compared to its G8 counterparts.(have you seen a barack obama in france ,germany or italy ,uk for example)the answer is no.
of course there are racist and narrow minded people in the us like everywhere else
but the bulk of the population will make their choice based on the candidate s credential not on his name.
president kennedy once said”i am not the the catholic candidate for president i am the democrat candidate for president who happen to be catholic” when he was attacked by his opponents during the presidential race in 1961.
he is the only catholic ever elected as the us president.
believe me it was a tough challenge to be a catholic back then.
barack is facing the same chanllenge today ,only this time it is about his origin .he is aware of that challenge.
quite frankly i think america needs a new worldwide image.
his name which may appear as a liability become an asset to negociate with the middle estern country for example and even pakistan and afganistan.
and since his dad is from africa may be this time we will see a us president who will put africa in his top agenda.
and mada will benefit from it.
by the way barack means blessing in arabic. i think the malagasy word AFA BARAKA(AFA=without baraka=blessing) is derived from there.
and mada desperately needs a barack obama made in mada to bridge our differences; but where to find him or her?????

Actually, I think tnr1 (I am tnr2) was referring to the almost-impeachment process Clinton went through after the Lewinsky scandal. The idea was to show that the US collective electoral psyche takes much more than the pure political/economic abilities of the US leaders into account when it comes to electing or keeping them. Apart from that, I cannot but agree with everything you wrote in your second comment.
I personally hope that Obama will be elected president. I also hope that Hillary will be designated as VP. Precisely because of the need for a change in the US. I think that to have both a black “young” man and a woman at the top of the US administration could contribute to change a lot in the mind of the American people – and elsewhere. Yes I believe in symbols and I am a partisan of radical change. For the better. I do not mean to offend your political sensitivity so please take my view as a purely foreign standpoint.
Allow me now to come back to your 1st comment: “a land of opportunity.” My feeling is that the US lag behind many countries in terms of equal opportunity in politics. France now has a divorced president whose father is from Eastern Europe. The first 2 woman prime ministers on the planet were Asian. 8 Asian countries have already elected a minimum of one woman at the head of the State. In India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan they’ve elected the same woman twice. In the Philipinnes, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh they’ve already elected 2 different women. 4 muslim countries have already been lead by a woman: Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Turkey. In Europe, Norway, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Iceland and the UK have all been lead by at least one woman. In Latin America, I can only think of Chili with Michelle Bachelet. In Africa, Elisabeth Domitien was the first female prime minister in the Central African Republic. In Burundi, Sylvie Kinigi was prime minister from 93 to 94. In Rwanda, they had Agathe Uwilingiyimana in 93. In Senegal, Mame Madior Boye was prime minister in 2001. And of course, St Thomas & Principe, Mozambique and Liberia with Mrs Johnson Sirleaf. I forgot Golda Meir in Israel, Pintasilgo in Portugal, Planinc in Yugoslavia, and a few others in France, Poland and Ukrain.
That was my view on gender equality and I’ll write briefly about racial equality in the US.
The politics of a country merely reflect the core values of its society. Dailleurs sa campagne électorale est décevante, elle s’efforce faussement de se présenter aux électeurs comme l’anti-Bush, alors qu’elle a soutenu sa politique guerrière en Irak notamment.
Elle n’est pas du tout crédible et le peuple américain n’est pas dupe. Les résultats prochains des primaires en Iowa et dans d’autres Etats démontreront l’imposture de la classe médiatique et politique qui la soutiennent avec moyens financiers considérables.
Au contraire, l’espoir du changement Barak Obama a de réelles chances de devenir le prochain président des USA, à moins que ses ennemis fanatiques préfèreront lui faire subir le même sort tragique que celui du courageux Bob Kennedy…

Il est probablement trop tôt pour se prononcer. Il y a quelques années personne ne pensait qu’un W. pourrait gagner… et il a gagné !
Concernant la HONTE, je dirais que “la honte elle au moins ne tue pas.” Je préfère un président qui s’envoie en l’air dans un bureau ovale avec une stagiaire plutot qu’un gars qui envoie des jeunes se faire tuer pour des armes de destruction massive qui n’existent pas…
Mais, avec la politique aux US, la réalité semble toujours plus créative que la fiction: la preuve? W. est président. Alors ils disent en anglais: let’s wait and see.

Une précision concernant Bill Clinton : évidemment je ne compare pas sa “faute” humaine avec celle du criminel Bush, mais cela n’excuse pas tout ! N’oublions pas que B.Clinton a menti a plusieurs reprises au peuple américain. Evidemment que sa situation n’était pas très confortable, mais il devait ASSUMER ses actes ! Soit il avouait la vérité et l’opinion publique était libre de juger voire de pardonner, soit il devait proposer à son parti de remettre son mandat, par respect pour l’image du parti démocrate et pour les électeurs qui l’avaient élu et qui lui avaient fait confiance en l’élisant Président des USA. Clinton peut faire ce qu’il veut comme homme, mais en tant que Président il avait des devoirs…

Je dirais pour commencer que je ne pense pas qu’une fonction ou un mandat nous engage à plus ou moins de responsabilité ou change la nature de l’éthique à laquelle nous devons obéir. Autrement dit, je crois que l’honneteté ou le mensonge restent les mêmes que ce soit dans nos vies privées, publiques ou professionelles.
A partir de là, je suis beaucoup moins enclin que toi à condamner Clinton sur la base de sa “responsablité présidentielle”. Effectivement, il a menti et c’est – pour moi – la même chose qu’il l’ait fait à la télévision ou face à sa femme, en privé – et je ne me permettrais pas de le condamner pour un choix sexuel qui lui est propre.
Pour aller plus loin, je pense que ce qu’il a fait (mentir) a été une bonne stratégie qui a bénéficié au parti démocrate. En effet, je crois que si Clinton n’avait pas menti il aurait probablement perdu son poste de président. Et je pense que la situation aurait été pire pour le peuple américain et le parti démocrate.
En effet, d’une part, tous les efforts des démocrates pour mettre l’un des leurs au pouvoir auraient été vains. D’autre part, les républicains menés par un certain Next Gingrich – dont les idées sont bien particulères je trouve – auraient tout gagné et cela n’aurait peut être pas été un avantage pour les américains au vu de ce que Bush fait depuis son investiture.
Pour terminer, il est assez intéressant de voir que Mr. Clinton attire plus les foules que Mme Clinton 🙂
